The Maryland Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC), located in Baltimore City
and Howard County, is community-based program funded by the United States Department
of Education and sponsored by the national Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The
program provides free information, counseling, and application assistance to adults
and youths interested in going to college or technical school.
Since 1968, MEOC (formerly Direct Search for Talent) has helped thousands of
residents in the Baltimore metropolitan area to enroll in postsecondary school
two- and four- year colleges and vocational technical schools- and to secure
millions of dollars in financial aid, including grants, scholarships, and loans.
Each year more than 3,000 people receive help in one or more of the following areas:
- College Admission
- Financial Aid
- Alternative Education
- Career Decision Making
- GED Practice Tests and Referrals
MEOC, a federal TRIO program, is one of 130
Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC)in the country. These programs are designed
to assist low income, first generation college bound adults (and by special
waiver, youths) to pursue higher education opportunities. Most EOC programs are
located on college and university campuses; MEOC is unique in its locations
within the community.
